CVE-2023-31518Public exploit

Client crash via use-after-free map-data read

Published May 23, 2023 · Updated Jan 31, 2025

Heap use-after-free in Teeworlds 0.7.5 allows remote attackers operating a malicious server to crash a connecting game client. CDataFileReader::GetItem reads four bytes from freed heap memory while processing malformed map data downloaded from the server. The client must connect to the malicious server and load its map; the public report reproduced an AddressSanitizer abort but no crash without AddressSanitizer.
