Root code execution via client-only package filtering
Published May 10, 2023 · Updated Jan 27, 2025
Improper input validation in GL.iNet router firmware 3.215 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root. The software-install endpoint accepts a filesystem path, package-list entry, or arbitrary package URL because package restrictions are enforced only in the client. The web administration interface must be reachable with a valid administrator token; successful exploitation installs attacker-supplied software and grants full router control.
