CVE-2023-31449Network attack vector

Authenticated file execution via WMI sensor path traversal

Published Aug 9, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Path traversal in Paessler PRTG Network Monitor 23.2.84.1566 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute files beyond the sensor folder. The WMI Custom sensor resolves user-supplied file paths without enforcing its designated custom-sensors directory, so traversal can select an external file. Exploitation requires an authenticated PRTG account with write permissions, and the consequence is host-side execution of the selected file within the sensor's capabilities.
