CVE-2023-31417

Credential disclosure via unfiltered deprecated security API logging

Published Oct 26, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Sensitive-data logging in Elasticsearch 7.0.0 through 7.17.11 and 8.0.0 through 8.9.0 allows local users to read credentials. Audit filtering fails to redact request bodies sent to deprecated _xpack/security user, password, OAuth, and SAML endpoints. Exposure requires audit logging and request-body logging to be enabled, use of an affected deprecated URI, and access to host audit logs.
