CVE-2023-31415Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated command execution via polluted Nodemailer options

Published May 4, 2023 · Updated Jan 29, 2025

Code injection in Elastic Kibana 8.7.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands through Uptime/Synthetics requests. The request pollutes object properties that Nodemailer's sendMail path consumes as attacker-controlled sendmail, path, and argument options. All Uptime/Synthetics privileges are required, and commands run with the Kibana process permissions; managed deployments confine execution to the Kibana container.
