System crash via uncanceled detection timer

Use-after-free in the Linux Kernel before 6.4-rc1 allows local users to crash the system during Ricoh R5C592 driver removal. The r592_remove function frees the MemoryStick host without synchronously canceling detect_timer, allowing r592_detect_timer to queue media_checker work against freed memory. Triggering the race requires root privileges to unload the module and a system using the Ricoh R5C592 MemoryStick controller; the documented consequence is a kernel crash, with possible kernel-memory disclosure.
