Privilege escalation via modifiable installation directory
Published Aug 13, 2024 · Updated Aug 13, 2024
Incorrect default permissions in AMD μProf Tool before 3.4.494 allow local users to escalate privileges and execute arbitrary code. The installer assigns the μProf installation directory permissions that let low-privileged users modify installed files. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and user interaction, and successful file replacement yields code execution at elevated privilege.
