Improper MSR validation in affected AMD processors allows local users with ring-0 access to execute arbitrary code through SMM. A model-specific register accepts a configuration change that redirects System Management Mode even after the SMI lock is set. Exploitation requires an already privileged malicious program and can establish code execution beneath the operating system.
