CVE-2023-31287Public exploit

Account takeover via reusable password reset tokens

Published Apr 27, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Weak password recovery in Serenity Serene and StartSharp before 6.7.0 allows local users to take over accounts via reusable reset links. The ResetPassword actions accept tokens containing only an expiry and user ID, so a password update does not invalidate an issued token. Access to the corresponding browser history or otherwise exposed link within the three-hour validity window is required to change the account password again.
