CVE-2023-31126Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Cross-site scripting via prefix-matched data attributes

Published May 9, 2023 · Updated Jan 28, 2025

Cross-site scripting in XWiki Commons 14.6-rc-1 through 14.10.3 allows remote authenticated users to run JavaScript via crafted data attributes. SecureHTMLElementSanitizer accepted a data attribute when its regular expression matched only a valid prefix, leaving trailing slash, greater-than, or colon characters unchecked. Exploitation requires rendered attacker-controlled XWiki content and user interaction; execution occurs in the affected session, and programming rights enable server-side code execution.
