Stored script execution via unsanitized format name
Published Apr 24, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stored XSS in Text Editors and Formats in Backdrop CMS before 1.24.2 allows remote attackers to inject script through a format name. The editor hint replaces its text with the selected format label without sanitizing the name parameter, so stored markup executes when the format changes. Creating a malicious format requires administrator access and execution requires an administrator to select it; the vendor disputes the security relevance.
