CVE-2023-31043

Password disclosure via incomplete command redaction

Published Apr 23, 2023 · Updated Feb 4, 2025

Information disclosure in EDB Postgres Advanced Server before 14.6.0 allows attackers to read cleartext passwords from server logs. The edb_filter_log.redact_password_commands filter fails to redact passwords when CREATE or ALTER USER, GROUP, or ROLE statements include optional parameters. Exposure requires configured password-command redaction and optional parameters in privileged role-management statements; anyone with log access can recover the recorded passwords.
