CVE-2023-3090Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via uncleared packet metadata

Published Jun 28, 2023 · Updated Mar 5, 2025

Heap out-of-bounds write in the Linux Kernel ipvlan driver before 6.4 allows local users to escalate privileges through IPv4 traffic. ipvlan_process_v4_outbound reuses skb->cb without clearing it before __icmp_send and __ip_options_echo interpret stale option metadata, enabling an out-of-bounds write. Reachability requires CONFIG_IPVLAN and an ipvlan L3 packet path; successful exploitation grants elevated execution, while failed attempts can crash the system.
