CVE-2023-30840

Cluster-wide privilege escalation via overprivileged CSI account

Published May 8, 2023 · Updated Jan 29, 2025

Incorrect authorization in Fluid 0.7.0 through 0.8.5 allows local users on a compromised Kubernetes node to gain cluster-wide privileges. The fluid-csi ClusterRole grants its service account get and patch access to nodes and unrestricted access to nodes/proxy. Exploitation requires control of a node running csi-nodeplugin-fluid and knowledge of other node names; node-spec changes can expose cluster secrets or place privileged pods on the compromised node.
