CVE-2023-30774Public exploit

tiffcrop crash via unchecked ink-count mismatch

Published May 19, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Heap buffer overflow in LibTIFF 3.5.1 through 4.4.0 allows local users to crash tiffcrop by processing a crafted TIFF image. In writeCroppedImage, tiffcrop trusts NumberOfInks while iterating the InkNames buffer and calls strlen beyond the supplied name data when the counts disagree. Processing the attacker-supplied image is required, and the demonstrated consequence is termination of the tiffcrop process rather than data disclosure or modification.
