Protection mechanism failure in Siemens TIA Portal V14 through V20 allows local users with a project file to recover unprotected block versions. The know-how protection feature retains earlier program-block content without updating its encryption when an existing project file is updated. Access to the project file is required, and the resulting disclosure is limited to previous unprotected block versions without requiring the know-how protection password.
