Local privilege escalation via parcel mismatch
Published Aug 10, 2023 · Updated Oct 10, 2024
Improper input validation in AuthenticationConfig on Samsung Mobile Devices before SMR Aug-2023 Release 1 allows local users to escalate privileges. Unused AuthenticationConfig code processes Android Parcel data inconsistently, creating a mismatch that defeats the intended privilege boundary. Exploitation requires local execution on an affected Android 11, 12, or 13 device and grants permissions beyond the attacker's existing level.
