Local code execution via unchecked buffer size
Published Jul 6, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2024
Out-of-bounds access in Samsung Mobile Devices before SMR Jul-2023 Release 1 allows local users to execute arbitrary code. The callrunTspCmdNoRead function in the sysinput HAL service reads and writes beyond its buffer because it lacks a proper buffer-size check. Exploitation requires shell access and affects only selected devices running Android 11, 12, or 13, where successful memory corruption permits code execution.
