Service-account command execution via FQL archive command
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Oct 9, 2024
Privilege escalation in Apache Cassandra 4.0.0 through 4.0.9 and 4.1.0 through 4.1.1 allows local users to execute commands via JMX. StorageService.enableFullQueryLogger accepts an archiveCommand supplied through nodetool or JMX and passes it to the FQL archiver without an authorization gate. JMX access is required, and a successful command runs with the privileges of the Cassandra service account, enabling control of its data and process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=4.0.0 <=4.0.9
