Interpreter crash via recursive constructor calls
Published Apr 24, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025
Stack overflow in JerryScript revision 1a2c047 allows local users to crash the interpreter by executing a crafted JavaScript file. ecma_op_function_construct and ecma_op_function_construct_constructor repeatedly invoke each other while constructing a recursively defined class, exhausting the process stack. Exploitation requires local execution and user interaction, and the demonstrated consequence is interpreter termination.
