Script execution via unterminated BBCode tag
Published May 8, 2023 · Updated Jan 29, 2025
Cross-site scripting in AsmBB 2.9.1 allows remote attackers to execute script in a victim's browser through crafted forum content. The TranslateBBCode routine leaves malformed BBCode tag content unencoded when a closing bracket is omitted, so an injected HTML element reaches rendered output. A victim must visit the malicious thread or crafted link; administrator execution lets the script alter forum settings and reach command execution.
