Stored script execution via unescaped chat messages
Published Jul 6, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2024
Stored cross-site scripting in wliang6 ChatEngine 1.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in a victim's browser. The chatWindow servlet stores the txtMsg request parameter in Derby and later writes it unescaped into the textMessage textarea. An attacker needs a valid chat session to submit a message, and execution occurs when another user opens or refreshes the chat window.
