Stored XSS via unencoded comment URL
Published May 4, 2023 · Updated Jan 29, 2025
Stored XSS in Typecho 1.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in visitors' browsers through a crafted comment URL. The default theme's usr/themes/default/comments.php template checks only the start of the URL value and writes it directly into link markup without output encoding, allowing the href attribute to be terminated and script-bearing HTML to be injected. An attacker must be able to submit a comment, and execution occurs when a visitor loads the affected article, giving the script the site's origin and the visitor's privileges.
