Broker crash via out-of-bounds MQTT property read
Published May 4, 2023 · Updated Jan 29, 2025
Heap-buffer overflow in NanoMQ 0.15.0-0 allows remote attackers to crash the MQTT broker by sending a crafted packet over TCP. The read_byte routine advances and dereferences the cursor past the end of an allocated network buffer while decode_buf_properties parses connection properties. No authentication or user interaction is required; the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer-detected broker abort.
