CVE-2023-29935Public exploit

Local compiler crash via repeated operation replacement

Published May 5, 2023 · Updated Jan 29, 2025

Reachable assertion in LLVM MLIR allows local users to crash mlir-opt by processing crafted MLIR through the gpu-to-llvm pass. The reported stack shows GenericAtomicRMWOpLowering erasing an operation already recorded as replaced, triggering notifyOpReplaced. Execution requires a user to run mlir-opt on the crafted module; the demonstrated consequence is termination of that compiler process, not system compromise.
