Browser script execution via unsanitized comment fields
Published Apr 14, 2023 · Updated Feb 6, 2025
Stored XSS in AeroCMS 0.0.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary scripts in visitors' browsers through crafted comments. The /post.php comment handler stores comment_author and comment_content without neutralizing HTML or script markup before later page generation. Comment submission requires low-privileged access, and exploitation requires another user to view the stored comment; impact is confined to that visitor's browser session.
