Administrator escalation via mutable self-authorization check
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 10, 2025
Privilege escalation in Pimcore before 10.5.23 allows remote authenticated users with user-management permission to become administrators. UserController::updateAction applies attacker-supplied user values before rechecking the current user's mutable admin flag, causing a self-update to satisfy its own authorization check. The account must already access the administrative user-update route; successful exploitation grants full Pimcore administrator privileges.
