Administrator-session compromise via unencoded SOAPAction log entry
Published May 2, 2023 · Updated Jan 30, 2025
Stored XSS in ASUS RT-AC51U firmware 3.0.0.4.380.8591 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script in the administrator UI. The miniupnpd service writes an untrusted SOAPAction header into syslog.log as a LOG_NOTICE entry, and the General Log page renders it without neutralizing HTML or script. A LAN-connected attacker needs an administrator to open General Log; the script can read administrator data or change router settings in that session.
