Persistent denial of service via unbounded provider inserts
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 13, 2025
Denial of service in BestWeather 7.3.1 for Android allows attackers to persistently disable the app through database manipulation. The com.icoolme.android.weather.provider content provider accepts an unbounded stream of insert requests carrying attacker-chosen name values into the EXP database path. A malicious application on the same Android device can invoke the provider without BestWeather authorization; the demonstrated consequence is persistent service interruption.
