CVE-2023-29742Public exploit

Local code execution via unauthorized content-provider update

Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 14, 2025

Code execution in BestWeather 7.3.1 for Android allows attackers to run code by using an unauthorized app to alter its database. The proof of concept uses Android's ContentResolver to write an attacker-controlled URL into the extend2 field exposed at the com.icoolme.android.weather.provider/EXP content-provider URI. Exploitation requires a separate malicious app on the same device and user interaction, and successful use executes code in BestWeather's context.
