Privilege escalation via writable EXP content provider
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 14, 2025
Privilege escalation in BestWeather 7.3.1 for Android allows attackers to alter app behavior through a co-installed unauthorized app. The exposed com.icoolme.android.weather.provider/EXP provider accepts a ContentResolver update that writes attacker-controlled extend1 data. A malicious app must already be installed on the same Android device; the published proof sets extend1 to 1, but no broader privilege or downstream behavior is disclosed.
