CVE-2023-2971Public exploit

Local file disclosure via protocol-handler path traversal

Published Aug 19, 2023 · Updated Oct 7, 2024

Path traversal in Typora before 1.7.0-dev on Windows and Linux allows attackers to exfiltrate local files through crafted content. The typora:// file-protocol handler's getRealPath function accepts traversal sequences after a typemark prefix and resolves them outside the installation path. A victim must open a malicious Markdown file or paste content from a malicious webpage; embedded code can then read and send arbitrary local files.
