Stored XSS via unescaped custom-style settings
Published Jul 10, 2023 · Updated May 5, 2025
Stored XSS in TinyMCE Custom Styles before 1.1.4 allows remote authenticated users with administrator privileges to execute scripts. The Title and Type Value settings accept script-bearing input, store it without sanitization, and render it without output escaping. Exploitation requires administrator access and disabled unfiltered_html, including on multisite installations, and executes the stored script when affected content is viewed.
