CVE-2023-29665Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Memory corruption via unchecked password conversion

Published Apr 17, 2023 · Updated Feb 6, 2025

Stack overflow in D-Link DIR-823G firmware 1.0.2B05 allows remote attackers to corrupt process memory via an HNAP password request. SetPasswdSettings passes NewPassword to sub_425830, which parses character pairs with strtol and writes the results into a stack buffer without checking the input length. The endpoint accepts the request without authentication, and public evidence demonstrates the overflow trigger rather than reliable code execution.
