Process crash via invalid fragment atom dereference
Published Apr 11, 2023 · Updated Feb 10, 2025
Memory-safety flaw in Bento4 1.6.0-639 allows context-dependent attackers to crash mp4decrypt through a crafted MP4 file. During fragment processing, AP4_Processor reaches AP4_TrunAtom::SetDataOffset with an invalid atom object, so the inline member assignment writes near the null page and terminates the process. Exploitation requires a user or local workflow to process the crafted file and interrupts only that Bento4 process.
