Arbitrary code execution via unescaped macro parameters
Published Apr 18, 2023 · Updated Feb 6, 2025
Code injection in XWiki Platform allows remote authenticated users with view rights to execute arbitrary scripts through its VFS Tree macro. Macro.VFSTreeMacro passes its root value and generated document URL into the tree macro without XWiki 2.1 escaping, so injected markup reaches dynamic evaluation. Exploitation requires view rights and the non-default macro page to be installed; successful code runs with full access to the XWiki installation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
