CVE-2023-29507Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Privilege escalation via mutable document authors API

Published Apr 16, 2023 · Updated Feb 6, 2025

Incorrect use of a privileged API in XWiki Platform 14.4.1 through 14.4.6 and 14.5 through 14.9 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts. Document.getAuthors() exposes a mutable DocumentAuthors object to scripts, letting callers replace content, creation, or effective authors without a program-right check. A user with script rights can assign a privileged author and render the document so later authorization uses the forged identity, enabling actions with that author's rights.
