Code execution via unfiltered third-party DNS requests
Published Dec 21, 2023 · Updated Sep 25, 2024
DNS-filter bypass in Heimdal Thor agent 3.4.2 and earlier on Windows and 2.6.9 and earlier on macOS allows attackers to evade blocking. DarkLayer Guard intercepts system-generated DNS requests but leaves requests generated by third-party resolvers outside its filtering path. The bypass permits connections to blocked domains, enabling arbitrary code execution and sensitive-data disclosure; Heimdal disputes the issue as outside the product design.
