Remote code execution via unsanitized book filenames
Published Apr 7, 2023 · Updated Feb 11, 2025
Path traversal in BiblioCraft before 2.4.6 allows remote attackers to write files outside the book directory and execute code. The server saves written books under world/books using attacker-controlled NBT author and title values without neutralizing ../ sequences, permitting writes into the mods directory. A crafted book can place a mod JAR there, which Forge loads on the next server restart; reachability requires the ability to submit and save the crafted book.
