CVE-2023-2940Network attack vector

File access restriction bypass via malicious extension

Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Mar 12, 2025

Improper access control in Downloads in Google Chrome before 114.0.5735.90 allows attackers to bypass file access restrictions. Google identifies the Downloads component but has not published the faulty operation because the linked issue remains permission-restricted. Exploitation requires a user to install a malicious extension and load a crafted HTML page, after which the extension gains file access that Chrome's restrictions should block.
