CVE-2023-2915Network attack vector

Arbitrary file deletion via message 21 traversal

Published Aug 17, 2023 · Updated Oct 8, 2024

Path traversal in Rockwell Automation ThinManager ThinServer allows remote attackers to delete arbitrary files via synchronization messages. ThinServer.exe accepts attacker-controlled paths in the files array of an unauthenticated type 21 message and deletes them as SYSTEM without restricting traversal outside the intended directory. Network access to the synchronization service on TCP port 2031 is sufficient; deleting service or system files can interrupt ThinServer and managed thin-client operations.
