CVE-2023-29113

Privilege escalation via unrestricted IPC procedure calls

Published Jun 28, 2025 · Updated Jun 30, 2025

Improper access control in JOYNEXT MIB3 OI MQB 0304 and earlier allows local users to invoke privileged service procedures. The custom IPC mechanism on the R-CAR M3 SoC performs no privilege check, so any process that initializes it can call any remote procedure exposed by participating services. A low-privileged process already running on the head unit is required; unrestricted calls can cross OS service boundaries and, when chained with the networking-service command injection, lead to root access.
