CVE-2023-29054

Traffic interception via default weak SSH ciphers

Published Apr 11, 2023 · Updated Feb 7, 2025

Weak SSH encryption in Siemens SCALANCE X-200IRT devices before 5.5.2 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read and modify traffic. The devices' SSH servers offer weak ciphers by default, allowing a negotiated connection to use inadequate encryption rather than restricting negotiation to strong algorithms. Exploitation requires interception between a legitimate SSH client and the device, and it exposes both the confidentiality and integrity of data carried by that connection.
