CVE-2023-28976Network attack vector

Unauthenticated service interruption via ingress PFE crash

Published Apr 17, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025

Denial of service in Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX Series allows remote attackers to crash and restart the ingress PFE with excessive traffic. The packet forwarding engine fails to handle traffic exceeding its corresponding DDoS protection limit and crashes instead. No authentication is required; continued delivery repeatedly restarts the ingress PFE and sustains the service interruption.
