CVE-2023-28967Network attack vector

Routing daemon crash via pre-session BGP packets

Published Apr 17, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025

Use of an uninitialized resource in BGP software in Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows remote attackers to crash rpd with genuine BGP packets. Before a BGP session is established, rpd processes the packets through a path that uses an uninitialized resource and terminates. A device must have BGP configured and accept the connection attempts; repeated packets sustain the routing-protocol outage in iBGP or eBGP deployments.
