CVE-2023-28929

Code execution via uncontrolled DLL search path

Published Jun 26, 2023 · Updated Dec 5, 2024

DLL hijacking in Trend Micro Security 2021 through 2023 for Windows allows local users to execute malicious code via a planted library. An unnamed executable searches an attacker-controllable location and loads the planted DLL without restricting resolution to a trusted path. Exploitation requires a user to start the affected executable; the malicious program then runs on each subsequent launch, enabling persistence.
