CVE-2023-28902Public exploit

Infotainment reboot via underflowed EXIF buffer size

Published Jun 28, 2025 · Updated Jun 30, 2025

Integer underflow in JOYNEXT MIB3 OI MQB 0304 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to reboot the infotainment system via a JPEG. Its picserver EXIF parser subtracts two from an untrusted two-byte length without a lower-bound check, then uses the underflowed unsigned result as an allocation size. Exploitation requires a crafted JPEG on a USB drive and user interaction to open it; the resulting process abort causes a full IVI reboot and briefly interrupts multimedia and navigation.
