SYSTEM code execution via Support Assistant symlink
Published Dec 25, 2023 · Updated Aug 27, 2024
Privilege escalation in NCP Secure Enterprise Client before 13.10 allows local users to execute arbitrary DLLs with SYSTEM privileges. Support Assistant follows a symlink from its user-controlled NcpSupport temporary directory and grants the invoking user write access to ncppki.conf, whose DLLWIN95 and DLLWINNT paths feed privileged services. A low-privileged Windows account must launch and restart Support Assistant, replace those paths, and wait for or trigger a privileged DLL load.
