Higher-privileged actions via unescaped ModelAdmin titles
Published Apr 3, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Stored XSS in Wagtail 1.5 through 4.1.3 and 4.2 through 4.2.1 allows remote authenticated users to run script in an administrator's browser. ChooseParentView marks breadcrumbs containing page titles as safe HTML, while InspectView marks link HTML containing document titles as safe without escaping either title. Exploitation requires ModelAdmin, a limited-permission editor account, and a higher-privileged user to view the crafted content, enabling actions with that user's credentials.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
