Privilege escalation via improper DLL path validation
Published Mar 23, 2023 · Updated Feb 25, 2025
DLL search-path hijacking in Veritas NetBackup before 10.0 on Windows allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges. The Windows client inadequately validates a DLL path before loading the library, allowing a lower-privileged user with file-creation access in that search path to substitute an attacker-controlled DLL. Write access to a DLL search-path directory is required, and successful exploitation compromises the host operating system under elevated privileges.
